Tuesday is the first day of September, and the end of the week rolls us into Labor Day weekend in the United States. Summer is winding down, which also means that the low ebb of TV and streaming releases will soon be coming to an end.
But not yet! The weather forecast in the Midwest calls for it to be annoyingly, exhaustingly hot and humid this week, and the TV schedule is still a pretty light one. The college football season gets fully underway, and a show about a fictional college football player — Chad Powers — is one of the two highest-profile premieres this week.
Some TV-related news from late last week:
• Hulu has renewed Furious, a thriller starring Emmy Rossum and loosely based on the 1987 movie Black Widow, for a second season.
• Disney and The Pokémon Company have signed a distribution deal that will bring both the first Pokémon animated series and a new, stop motion-animated show to Disney+ and cable channel Disney XD. The stop-motion show will be made by Aardman of Wallace & Gromit fame.
• Prime Video picked up a murder mystery series called Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone. It’s based on a best-selling novel by Benjamin Stevenson and will star Penn Badgley as the guy who has a family full of killers (either accidental or intentional).
