Lexi Minetree in Elle, a Legally Blonde prequel series.

The Fourth of July holiday closes out this week, and maybe because of that it’s a relatively light one for season and series premieres. The most notable exception is Elle, a Legally Blonde prequel series that follows a teenage Elle Woods. And at the other end of the cheerful/dour spectrum, Silo begins a new season on Apple TV.

The World Cup has entered its single-elimination phase, and there are several Independence Day-themed specials on tap for the weekend — more than usual, in fact, since the U.S. is marking the 250th anniversary of its founding.

Before the dates, a few news items from late last week:

• So much, I guess, for the rumors that Stranger Things stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour hated one another or that he was a bully to her on set. They’ll be starring together in a Netflix spy drama from Adolescence and Enola Holmes writer Jack Thorne.

• Prime Video has picked up a second season of Every Year After, a romantic drama based on author Carley Fortune’s novel Every Summer After.

• A Dark Shadows animated series based on the 1960s supernatural soap opera is on the way from Warner Bros. Animation. Who this might be for, exactly, is perhaps a secondary question in the age of IP recycling.

On to the dates for this week. All times are ET/PT unless noted.

World Cup schedule

It’s win or go home time for the remainder of the tournament. The knockout rounds started Sunday with Canada’s 1-0 win over South Africa in stoppage time, Canada’s first-ever win outside the group stage at a World Cup. The round of 32 — also a first in this expanded field — runs through Friday with three games each day, and the round of 16 starts Saturday.
