We’re heading into week two of the fall premiere deluge, and just like last week, there are more than 20 shows — ranging from prestige dramas to, uh, Scrabble — premiering in the next seven days. Among the headliners are a Netflix adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and new seasons of Scrubs on ABC and the Marshals/Tracker duo on CBS.
It’s a lot to get to, so I’m not gonna do much preamble up here. And down below, not every show is going to get a detailed description. Your and my time are both saved by me not trying to come up with something to say about season 18 of Shark Tank.
Just a couple pieces of news from late last week:
• Just before its 52nd season premiere, Saturday Night Live made a couple of key behind-the-scenes moves. Keri Powers was named head of the show’s talent department, meaning she’s in charge of host, musical guest and guest star bookings. Rebecca Schwartz was upped to producer after working in the talent department. Powers and Schwartz have both been with SNL for more than a decade, and their promotions come a month and change after the show let long-time music booker Brian Siedlecki go when his contract ended in August.
• John Goodman, Ian Alexander and Laura Bailey have joined the cast of The Last of Us at HBO. Alexander and Bailey have also had voice roles in the video game series, but they’ll be playing different characters on TV.
