The TV calendar is relatively light this week, for a couple of reasons. One is that almost all of the broadcast networks’ fall shows have premiered. The other is that it’s Halloween week, and people are somewhat less likely to be in front of their TVs as much.
Networks and streamers have tons of data on the ebbs and flows of TV viewing, and obviously they’re not going to burn a bunch of high-profile premieres and events in a week where fewer people are watching. That’s the case with Halloween: Trick or treating and parties pull folks away from the screen, or if people are watching, they’re more likely than usual to turn to library shows that are on theme (movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus have annual viewing spikes in late October) than regular programming.
The Simpsons’ annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode aired Sunday, and CBS has a Ghosts Halloween special coming this week. But otherwise, there isn’t a ton of themed stuff — again, streamers and networks know (more or less) what we viewers do this time of year, so the new stuff is going to slow down some. But it will pick back up again once the calendar flips to November.
Premieres, specials and finales happening this week are below. All times are ET/PT unless noted.
